A&D SIG Supports NASA Project Management Challenge 2008

The A&D SIG was represented at the recent NASA Project Management Challenge by Gary Nitch, Regional Director - Southeast Region, and Jim Gallagher, Vice Chair Membership. Gary and Jim helped staff a PMI booth in the exhibitor display area. The booth was co-hosted and supported by PMI Global Operation Center staff and the PMI Space Coast Chapter.

Over 1,000 NASA employees, support contractors and company representatives attended the Challenge, making this a very successful event. Well over one hundred participants visited the PMI booth and Jim and Gary spoke with many of them about the benefits of joining PMI and the A&D SIG. Jim and Gary also spoke with the representatives of the Space Coast Chapter about establishing a Local Interest Group (LIG). Discussions will continue on this initiative.

Membership Survey Results Are In

There were 103 members who responded to the recent member survey. That was disappointing, but we feel there were sufficient responses to establish the significant member preferences.

OMB Guidelines for Project Management

As project management has become increasingly critical to the successful execution of the work of government, the White House Office of Management and Budget has developed a certification program to ensure that federal project managers possess the necessary competencies to succeed at various stages of their careers.

In April 2007, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced certification requirements for program and project managers assigned to major acquisitions. The Federal Acquisition Certification
for Program and Project Managers (FAC-P/PM) will apply to all major acquisitions as defined in
Office of Management and Budget Circular A-11, Part 7, exhibit 300, Planning, Budgeting, Acquisition, and Management of Capital Assets
.

PMI® Calls for "Best Projects" in North America

PMI’s Professional Development department values our components for having a keen eye in recognizing successful projects. Your “Best of the Best” projects and “Projects of the Year” have proven to be fine examples of project management discipline.

This year, we are inviting components in the North America region to offer their best projects to be considered for Areas of Focus presentations at the PMI Global Congress 2008—North America in Denver, Colorado. The presentations you submit are not being nominated for an award at the North America Global Congress.

Interested in submitting a project for consideration? Please contact Jacqueline.kardon@pmi.org no later than 1 April.

Presenters, whose projects are accepted for the congress, will be notified about 30 days from the submission date.
