Project management professionals
involved in aerospace-defense projects needs a source of resources
to guide their activities. The following are some available resources
the can be readily accessed via Department of Defense and other
government web sites. This list does not preclude additional sources
being identified and we ask the A&D SIG membership to provide
resources that will be useful "arrows" in a project manager's
"quiver."
Joint
Project Management Handbook
DAU-developed handbook that provides tips and best practices for
managing U.S. DoD weapons and information technology programs. Primarily
designed for the government program manager, but also provides insight
and knowledge for defense industry project managers.
Defense
Acquisition University
The public web site of the Defense Acquisition University. Contains
access to continuous learning modules (source of PDUs), and to DoD
acquisition certification courses - both distance learning and classroom.
Certification courses are necessary for a Government/military project
management practitioner achieving the 3 levels of DoD certification
in a particular career field. DAU guidebooks can be obtained on-line
at this site, and there are instructions for ordering hard copies
of those guidebooks. Site also provides conference listings, workshop
listings, related associations and organizations, and a reference
library.

U.S.
Department of Defense (DoD) Extension to: A Guide to the Project
Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)
The U.S. DoD Extension is a PMI® Standard
sponsored by the A&D SIG and developed by DAU in a joint cooperative
agreement with PMI. This document supplements the generic information
contained in the PMBOK® Guide with
specifics on U.S. DoD acquisition policy, processes, and procedures.
It is particularly important for foreign countries who are trying
to gain information on how the U.S. does project and program management
for acquiring defense weapons and information technology.
AT&L
Knowledge Sharing System (AKSS)
The AT&L Knowledge Sharing System
(AKSS) serves as a central gateway for all of the acquisition, technology
and logistics resources and information, and communicates acquisition
reform policies. As the primary reference tool for the Defense AT&L
workforce, it provides a means to link together information and
reference assets from various disciplines into an integrated, but
decentralized information source.
Defense
Acquisition University, AT&L Magazine
Defense AT&L magazine publishes feature stories focusing
on real people and events. Its purpose is to make available practical
lessons learned for project/program managers and acquisition practitioners.
Stories and articles are written by senior military personnel, civilians,
and defense industry professionals in the project/program management
and defense acquisition business. Writers draw upon their own experience
rather than from researched information. Academic papers, fact sheets,
technical papers, and/or white papers are not printed in the AT&L
Magazine, nor do authors use endnotes or references in their articles.

to be successful.
Defense
Acquisition University - Defense Acquisition Review Journal (ARJ)
The Acquisition Review Journal (ARJ) is a scholarly peer-reviewed
(refereed) research journal designed to further Defense
Acquisition and Project/Program Management knowledge and processes.
All submissions receive a blind review to ensure impartial
evaluation. Authors use endnotes to support their research, and
include anyone involved in the defense acquisition process - defined
as the conceptualization, initiation, design, development, testing,
contracting, production, deployment, logistic support, modification,
and disposal of weapons and other systems, supplies, or services
needed by the U.S. Defense Department, or intended for use to support
military missions.
Acquisition
Community Connection (ACC)
The ACC is a DAU collaborative arm of the AT&L Knowledge System
that complements the existing information resources located on the
AKSS. The ACC consists of knowledge communities whose goal is connecting
people with know-how. The ACC is an expansion on what used to be
known as the PM Community of Practice (CoP).
Defense
Acquisition Resource Center
Site provides latest information on up-to-date DoD acquisition policy
and procedures guidance. Site also contains a Defense Acquisition
Process tutorial and frequently asked questions to insure thorough
understanding of acquisition policies. This site is sometimes referred
to as the DoD 5000 Resource Center.
Defense
Acquisition University - Program Management Career Track
Displays the series of acquisition courses required for DoD certification
in DoD Acquisition Career Fields. (Govt/Mil project managers only).
Defense Acquisition
Guidebook (DAG)
The DAG complements other U.S. DoD policy documents (DoDD 5000.1
and DoDI 5000.2) by providing the defense acquisition workforce
with discretionary best practices and guidance that should
be tailored to the needs of each defense project or program. It
provides members of the acquisition community and our industry partners
with an interactive, on-line reference for gleaning these best practices
and guidance. It covers such critical topics as acquisition strategies
and risk management. Consider the Guidebook a valuable resource
as you design your projects/programs.
Acquisition Review Journal
The "refereed" Journal of DAU. Provides defense acquisition

Guidebook and key DoD policy documents such as the 5000 Series and
Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff instructions, and illustrates the
interaction of the following three major decision support systems:
- Capabilities Development (Joint Capabilities Integration &
Development System (JCIDS)
- Acquisition Management (Defense Acquisition System)
- Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution (PPBE) process
